Golden Wright serves as the department chair for the Department of Theatre & Dance. He is a tenured associate professor in Dance with training in classical ballet, modern dance, partnering and choreography. Wright started his dance training at Busby Dance Center in Victoria, TX at the age of 16. While training in Victoria he joined Victoria Ballet Theatre and performed at SWRBA, RDA and Tanzommer in Innsbruck, Austria. He attended Joffrey Summer Workshop in San Antonio and Ballet Austin Summer Intensive before joining Ballet Austin. He performed as a guest artist with Ballet Arkansas, Beaumont Ballet Theatre, Corpus Christi Concert Ballet, Corpus Christi Ballet and Victoria Ballet Theatre. Wright continued his education in dance at Sam Houston State University earning a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Dance. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University. Wright has showcased his choreography at multiple dance festivals – the Bailando Dance Festival, American College Dance Association – South Central Regional Conferences and Exchange Dance Festival in Tulsa, OK are just a few of the venues his work was adjudicated. His most recent work Fragmented was selected to be performed in the Gala performance by three adjudicators. His work Tell Me and A Different Kind of Canvas was invited and performed at TUT in Tainan and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. At the Bailando Dance Festival in Corpus Christi, he and his dance partner were chosen by adjudicators to perform Tell Me in the Gala Production. Through developing a relationship with the Department of Dance at Tainan University of Technology in Tainan, Taiwan, Lamar University’s Department of Theatre & Dance has hosted TUT twice and traveled on two study abroad trips to Taiwan. Wright and LU students were able to take classes, learn choreography, perform and experience cultural activities/food. In 2017, he choreographed and performed his works Tell Me and A Different Kind of Canvas in Tainan and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Wright served as conference coordinator for the 2018 American College Dance Association South-Central Conference which took place on the LU campus. This conference hosted more than 400 college faculty and students who took and taught classes and presented choreographed work to be adjudicated. Tainan University was hosted as the guest artists for the conference. Wright was a recipient of the Friends of the Arts 2019 Innovation and Excellence Award for his integration of technology in his choreographic works.
